Bromsgrove
Golf Centre holds the GolfMark (High Achiever) accreditation, awarded by golf’s
governing bodies
in recognition of the centre meeting high standards in coaching, playing, the club
environment and its dedication and duty of care to beginners and junior golfers.
The Clubmark accreditation is awarded to a facility that Sport England recognises
as a quality Sports Club.
Junior participation at Bromsgrove continues to flourish under the supervision of
both the Golf Academy and the Junior Section of Bromsgrove Golf Club.
Whilst the Academy provides professional tuition to both boys and girls of all abilities
on either a group or individual basis, the Golf Club, through the Junior Committee
provide additional playing opportunities for those juniors who understand the basic
fundamentals of the game. These sessions comprise of a number of supervised playing
sessions on the course throughout the year, leading to competitive golf opportunities
by participation in the various Club competitions for the more experienced players.

Here at Bromsgrove Golf Centre,
under the guidance of Head Professional Graeme Long, we operate the Junior Golf Passport Scheme, the National Learning Programme for young people (See link under
Golf Academy page). Details of all the coaching sessions run by Graeme and his
team of professionals can be found under the Tuition Fees link. Sessions are run
for all ages between 6 and 16 years of age with the option of separate ‘Girls only’
classes. Information packs, including dates and application forms, are available
for collection from the Golf Centre Reception.
Junior Fun Days are run by Graeme and his team with up to 10 two day sessions run
during school holidays throughout the course of the year.
Free Taster Sessions, for beginners, are also run on an annual basis, with financial
assistance provided by the EGU/EWGA through their ‘Free Golf Coaching Grant Aid
Scheme’, for men, ladies and juniors. Information on these sessions is provided
in the local press prior to each event.

For those juniors who wish to progress further with the sport there is an opportunity
to become a member of Bromsgrove Golf Club. Full details of the types of membership
available are to be found on the Membership Structure page. The Club presently
has an active junior membership and a number of competitions are run for players
of all abilities. For those with a handicap of 28 and below the ‘A’ league is for
them, players over 28 handicaps play in the ‘B’ league and in addition they enjoy
‘on course’ tuition from PGA Level 1 coaches under the supervision of the Head Professional.
For those juniors who have not yet achieved a handicap and require further tuition
to prepare them for the Golf Course, the ‘C’ League fulfills this requirement with
supervised sessions on the practice ground. Details of all the competition dates
can be found on the Fixtures/ Results page. All Junior Members with a CONGU handicap
of 28 or less are eligible to enter all of the Clubs competitions.

The running of the Junior Section is overseen by the Junior Captain, Junior Organiser
and members of the Junior Committee all of whom are elected at the Annual Meeting
in February. |

The Club applies for the EGU/EWGA Junior Club Coaching Grant Aid which provides
funding for coaching of our Junior Members in a series of classes conducted by Graeme
Long or one of his team.
As part of the development of Juniors, the winners of both the Clubs ‘A’ & ‘B’
leagues are rewarded with a ’Junior Scholarship’ which is jointly awarded by Bromsgrove
Golf Centre and Bromsgrove Golf Club and provides the recipients with a years green
fees and coaching by Graeme Long, Head Professional.

The 'Get In to Golf' National Skills Challenge has been developed for young golfers and is designed to be challenging at all levels, but above all it is intended to
be FUN. The Challenge covers 5 golfing disciplines, putting, chipping, pitching,
bunker play and full swing - each discipline has 2 Challenge activities, making
10 in total. Details of ‘Challenge dates’ which are operated with the assistance
of the Teaching academy are promoted within the Junior section. |
