************************************************ Captains Report Bromsgrove Golf Club January 2010
As we move into the New Year it comes the time for my final Captains report, I just don’t know where the year has gone, it only seems yesterday since I and Anna started our Captaincy.
Looking back at the last 12 months the committee have worked tirelessly to maintain the previous high standards how this Golf Club is run, so we should all look on the year with tremendous satisfaction and pride.
The competitions with a combination of excellent work by the co-ordinators and support from the members meant we had another year of increased participation. I know the membership appreciate this as I’ve received many complimentary comments about your competitions this year.
Our teams have had another good season it gave me great pride in watching them play as they are always well turned out and their conduct is impeccable. Junior Zonal winners, The Alliance held their own in division one, Worcs Handicap finalists, West Mids Zonal qualifiers and the 17-24 league winners for the fourth year running, and the ladies had representatives at St Andrews. Another good year for our teams.
My thanks to all my team Captains for 2009 their time and dedication is very much appreciated. I must say a special thank you to Neil Batson, Barrie Claridge, and Dave Thompson who are stepping down as Team Captains this year; they have done a tremendous job over the years running these teams to a very high standard.
There are memories over the last year that will be with me forever, I and Anna away day at Sapey Golf Club, the pride at presenting the winners with their trophies on presentation night, meeting and greeting players at all the opens, Race night when you the members raised a staggering 890 for a very worthy course our charity Make-A- Wish. A very special thanks to Anna for being an excellent Captain, we worked very well together a great team, also thanks to Jeff and Janet for being excellent Vice-Captains, Phil and Adam and all the staff at the centre for the excellent course and facilities witch get better every year.
This Golf club continues to improve every year our reputation continues to grow around the County and our standards always remain at the highest level..... My congratulations to the committee for this achievement. We have also put B.G.C forward for club of the year in the Bromsgrove Sports Awards fingers crossed I hope we are successful.
Fare& feather had a very good turnout for the last comp of the season, well done to the winners Pete Fox and Gary Stanley with 42 points. A big thanks to Mark Hawkins for all his hard work on the committee over the years he, has decided to step down this year, also to thank him for giving me this opportunity to be Captain of B.G.C.
Finally to finish.... Being your Club Captain has been a tremendous honour for me one that I will never forget the whole experience was unbelievable, thank you for all your support throughout the year. Good luck to Jeff and Janet in 2010, just remember enjoy the experience as it really does fly bye.
Happy New Year to all and my very best regards.

ON LINE BOOKING SYSTEM UPDATE – Aug 2010
We are pleased to report that in conjunction with BRS Golf, we are making excellent progress towards the introduction of the new booking system.
The current status is that whilst the BRS system currently caters for the private sector, who also appears to be moving to booking systems to avoid the problems of the early morning jostling at the tee, the software does need to be significantly modified to cater for our diverse membership categories. We are, therefore, committed to fine tuning the system to meet all our needs, including integration with the tills, before we go live which we anticipate as being early in the New Year.
In many clubs already, the response by members to the BRS system has been exceptional, often quoted as ‘adding value to membership’. The key feature is the online booking facility which will totally enhance the current booking method and will remove the archaic practice of queuing at the crack of dawn to secure a tee time.
We truly believe that the introduction of the booking facility will be a tremendous step forward. As well as being able to book by telephone or over the counter, members will be able to use a new “in house” PC based self booking station or go online. The aim is to provide a full 24/7 service where members can at a glance obtain the answer to the most commonly asked question....... “When can I play”?
